Stay informed about International Valuation Standards and business valuation profession in Hong Kong from the CEO of International Valuation Standards Council.

Hong Kong is a major financial centre. It is important that there is confidence in business valuations for both listed companies and private companies. Despite this, there is a lack of accepted technical and professional standards in the Hong Kong market. Together with RICS and other local key players, the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) has set up a Hong Kong Business Valuation Quality Initiative (BVQI) task force to develop a framework tailored for the Hong Kong market.

We have invited the Chief Executive Officer of IVSC Mr Nick Talbot to give an update of this framework, and how this may potentially impact RICS professionals practicing valuation. He will also preview other key initiatives that IVSC is working on.

In this townhall session, you will get first-hand information about:

  • Proposed ‘standards and professionalism framework” for business valuation profession in Hong Kong
  • Update of International Valuation Standards (IVS) 2020 new edition
  • Competencies requirement for RICS business and intangible valuation pathway
  • RICS Valuers Registration regime

Nick Talbot

Nick Talbot is the CEO of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) – a position he has held since July of 2016, following on from an interim role in 2015 when he led a restructure of the organization to increase it’s technical expertise and global impact. The IVSC brings together experts from around the world to produce International Valuation Standards. It covers all asset classes and is recognized in different ways by the World Bank, IMF, UN, as well as corporates and influential professional bodies who qualify appraisers. It engages at the highest levels of regulators in the US and around the world in order to improve and give confidence in the approach to valuation. It is overseen by an independent board of global leaders.

Before working at IVSC Nick was a global director at RICS and held non-executive roles, having worked for much of his career in a variety of international senior management roles at Ernst & Young and KPMG.

Outside of work Nick dedicates time to raising profile and money for Cystic Fibrosis charities across the world and as part of his fundraising was the first person with Cystic Fibrosis to summit Everest. He has featured in various documentaries, television, radio and news outlets across the world, and has received a Point of Light Award from the UK Prime Minister.
