FREE Screening & Discussion: Live the Greek Way 2025-12-14

What is Greek life? There is so much to explore about Greece: ancient civilizations, philosophy, art, and mythology, as well as enduring traditions, music, and a vibrant Mediterranean way of life.

To start with, this event will focus on modern Greek culture and spirit - movie selections from lively dancing and heartfelt family traditions to sun-soaked island adventures.

Movies to Vote:

1. Zorba the Greek (1964) - A classic portrayal of Cretan village life, Greek hospitality, music, and the philosophy of embracing life (kefi).
2. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) - Greek family chaos, food, traditions, superstitions, and the warm (and overwhelming!) Greek hospitality.
3. Mamma Mia! (2008) - A joyful musical filmed on Skopelos and Skiathos, following a bride-to-be who invites three men to discover which one is her father.

Welcome to the Desolation Movie Club! Join us for a thought-provoking experience through film screenings and discussion with a theme each time that is thoughtfully created. Here we only watch movies with meaning!

How it works:

Each time there will be a theme for the screening, with 3 movies as options that fit the theme.In the event, we watch trailers of all 3 movies then vote which one to watch in full. After the movie, we will discuss the plot, characters, themes, context, and whatever brings depth to the movie and makes it meaningful.
