Event Details

We would like to proudly announce the program for the 1905 International Human Rights Film Festival in Hong Kong from May 17th - 27th. The 1905 Human Rights Film Festival (HRFF) aims to raise awareness about human rights violations through film screenings and discussions with filmmakers and activists.

Nowhere to Hide
Sweden | 2016 | 86’ | Documentary Film
Director:Zaradasht Ahmed

When the US Army withdrew from Iraq in 2011, it left a country in decay after years of fighting and sectarian violence. Male nurse Nori Sharif lives in Jalawla, one of the most dangerous areas of central Iraq. The filmmaker gives him a small camera. Over the next five years, he uses this camera (and often only a mobile phone) to record the stories of people who have survived the war. As a sensitive observer, he reveals the helplessness of families affected by death or mutilation, but also their will to live while violence rages unabated around them. He thus becomes part of a war in which even a neighbour can be an enemy from whom there is nowhere to hide.

Awards:
The Best Film Award International Competition, One World Human Rights Film Festival (2017)
Norwegian Peace Film Award (NoFPA), Tromsø International Film Festival (2017)
Audience Award International Selection, Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2017)

Zaradasht Ahmed

1905 International Human Rights Film Festival

The 1905 International Human Rights Film Festival (HRFF) aims to raise awareness about human rights violations through film screenings and discussions with filmmakers and activists. Through our festival, we hope to offer both Mainland Chinese and foreign filmmakers a platform to exhibit their works to an audience that is otherwise rarely confronted with such topics.
