This is a workshop for families. If you have a child who loves to play video games but you feel a little lost about how to manage it, this workshop is for you and your kid. You will rollup your sleeves along with your child to not only play, but also learn about video games how they are made and why they are popular and addictive.

This one and half hour session will be filled with lecture, breakout sessions, and some pre-homework for both you and your child.

Objectives:

• Bridge the gap between parents and kids around the pull and joy of video games. We are going to play together!
• Learn the risks and signs of video game addiction and begin a dialogue about how to enjoy anything to the appropriate amounts. We are going to learn together!
• Begin to define practical challenge of raising children in this day and age and begin to define goals and objectives together. We are going to set some examples!

For Parents:

• What are video games?
• What is Fortnite and why do kids love it so much? (see important note below regarding Fornite.)
• Last June, the World Health Organization listed "gaming disorder" into the 11th Revision of its International Classification of Diseases. How should I parent given this recognition, particularly as our kids are moving through these critical stages in life and learning self control?
• Is there anything good that can come out of playing video games?

For Kids:

• Can you explain what video games are to my parents?
• How much gaming is too much?
• How come my parents are worried about gaming?
• Is there anything bad that can come out of playing video games?

For Families:

• How can we talk about video game playing in a way that connects us as a family?

Note about Fortnite: We will be playing Fortnite together during this session. If you child has never played Fortnite, it might be a good idea to consider the conquesences of introducing this very, very popular game to your child. If your your child already plays Fortnite, you know what I'm talking about! ;)

Note about pre-homework: There is a 15 minute questionaire that parents, guardians, and kids MUST take to ensure that the workshop is productive and helpful. Because the session is 2 hours long, it requires that children are mature enough to handle the length.
