About this Event

Race relations discussions in the U.S. have been primarily seen through a black and white binary. This fireside chat seeks to decenter that. Coming from a Chinese family that lived in the segregated southern part of the U.S, Crystal Kwok will contextualize anti-blackness among Chinese Americans based on her research on Chinese attitudes and actions towards black people in the segregated south. She will introduce her current documentary project, “Unruly Chinese Women” about race-relations and Chinese women’s position in the American south during segregation.

Crystal Kwok is an academic, actress, filmmaker and a talk show host. She made a reputation for herself in HK as someone with strong opinions and shamelessly tackling sensitive issues of body and sexuality on her shows.
