What are Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)?

OAEs are sounds generated from the inner ear (cochlea) in response to an external sound. They can be detected with machines as a marker for inner ear health and an easy way to reliably and objectively screen for hearing loss.

What should I expect  from the hearing screening?

Accepted Answer

We try make it fun! Most children are able to complete testing in 5 minutes. Results are indicated as pass/fail. If there is a need for a follow-up, this will be indicated in the report. Reports will be given back to the school for distribution on the same day.

Question 3

What happens if my child fails the screening?

Accepted Answer

We recommend to do a follow-up at clinic to understand what is impacting your child's hearing. There are circumstances that may lead to failed results that can be medically reversed or managed. In case your child would like assistance from ENT Centre, we are conveniently located in Central.

Question 4

What if my child is unwell on the day of testing and cannot attend?

Accepted Answer

Don't worry! We will work with the school to see if we can come for another visit. In case this cannot be arranged, your child can complete his/her testing at our clinic by a set date. We recommend waiting a minimum of 2 weeks after symptoms have passed before testing.

Will I receive a confirmation after I register?

Accepted Answer

A confirmation email from the Eventbrite system will be sent to the registered email account after registration is successfully complete. If you would like a clinic issued receipt, kindly please select this option during the registration process.
