Welcome to the Empower Action Workshop!
Chances are you are reading this as either 1) your school is already involved in many service learning experiences and you want to find ways to improve their impacts, or 2) your school is shifting toward doing more meaningful service learning experiences.
Over the two day workshop we will take you through a series of leadership techniques to enable your school to empower students through hands-on activities covering such topics as:
The UN SDG’s
Stages of service learning
Project management tools (needs analysis, planning, implementation, evaluation, funding)
Led by Andy Dorn, Graham Harper and Simon Joyce, three educators, from diverse backgrounds, share their experiences in leading hands-on and practical tools to empower students, teachers and communities to address the SDG’s. This will provide you with an enduring understanding that educators empower:
Students to explore their right and responsibility to implement service as action in the community
Actions that are sustainable within our communities by integrating project management tools into stages of service learning.
Curricular learning through engaging students in addressing authentic needs
Each day of the workshop will kick-off with the introduction of a specific theme and keynote address, after which, participants will be introduced to topics and tools that assist the educator to lead change within their school to improve service learning knowledge to students. These sessions are organized to allow participants the freedom to reflect and discuss the relevant tools and scenarios.
At the end of each day, we’ll wrap up with a presentation from each group highlighting their knowledge, talking points, and practical applications for what has been learned.
