Event description
Tinker with electric circuits, and learn to design & build your own projects!

About this Event

Electricity, electronics: they are words we use a lot but what do they really mean? What is electricity and how does it work? How do you control electricity so it does what you want it to do – shine a light, run a motor, show text on a display, etc? This and more you will learn in this course. Based around the popular Arduino microcontroller this course teaches electronics from the ground up, without using simplified building blocks.

Learn the basics of electronic circuits, resistors and capacitors, and work up from blinking an LED to constructing a complete obstacle avoiding robot from scratch. This course is the ideal starting point for further learning and tinkering with electronic circuits, allowing you to design and build your own projects. Additional skills taught include reading and drawing schematic diagrams of electrical circuits, soldering wires and components together, and an introduction to programming in C++.

Students have to bring their own laptop for programming the Arduino. They take home the Arduino starter kit (which includes a wide selection of sensors and other electronic components) and the robot.

Age group: 13+

About the F.I.S.H Course Leader: Wouter van Marle is the makerspace manager at The Grove, running regular STEAM activities for the students of The Harbour School in the school’s makerspace, The Foundry. He has a background as a maker and the development of electronic control systems for various applications.
