Description
No visitor would ever describe Hong Kong as a boring city. The iconic and breathtaking skyline, vast harbor and spectacular skyscrapers set against a backdrop of green hills are a feast for the eye of every city lover. But most people in Hong Kong live in a totally different setting. The Hong Kong they see every day is monotonous, homogeneous and very densely populated; vertical neighborhoods that are boring because of their extreme efficiency. We are interested in how these residential areas influence behavior, citizenship and upward mobility.
Inge Goudsmit is an Associate at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. She joined OMA Rotterdam in 2005 to work on the Cordoba Congress Center and the Jeddah Airport Project. Goudsmit relocated to Beijing, and afterwards to Hong Kong, rejoining OMA Asia in 2009 to work on and eventually lead the design of the Taipei Performing Arts Center, currently under construction. Other projects that Goudsmit oversaw included the Yen Lac Binh Xuyen Strategic Masterplan in Vietnam, the Maison Ullens Flagship Store in Paris, France (completed), and a Boarding School in Nepal.
