【DX design hub | Urban Yarn 】Exhibition Talk: The craft development and evolution of Hong Kong Knitting Industry
The textile industry was once an important economic pillar for Hong Kong, and in the 1980s, the city became the third-largest exporter of textiles in the world. With the changing times and the opening up of the mainland in the 1990s, Hong Kong's textile industry gradually relocated north. This month, we invite artisans and professionals from Lo's Knitting Studio, who have over 40 years of experience, to share their insights on the various developments and changes in craftsmanship within the industry.
About Law Knitter Studio:
The Law Knitter Studio is a Hong Kong based knitting studio locating at Lai Chi Kok. It aims to re-industrialize and transform the studio into a space that combines retail, events, and production, ensuring the preservation of knitting craftsmanship. They strive to create a true "Hong Kong brand" and "Made in Hong Kong" identity, driving the transformation and upgrading of the traditional clothing manufacturing industry to shape a new brand image. By integrating local brand design, art, and knitting, the studio hopes to provide a platform for designers to unleash their creativity, and they aspire for everyone to tap into their creative instincts.
The studio regularly hosts exhibitions, workshops, product showcases, and markets to promote Hong Kong's knitting culture and art, fostering a thriving local design industry.
