Description

Marco Bonfigli - Clarinet

Michelangelo Carbonara - Piano

The Duo Harmonia Mundi was created in 2010 by the Italian clarinetist Marco Bonfigli, specialized in chamber music and solo repertoire, with the aim of promoting chamber music for clarinet and piano in Latin America. The name is inspired by and reinterprets the famous Pythagorean theory on the concept of harmony.

Marco Bonfigli was born in Latina (Italy) and graduated in 1996 at the Institute "A. Manzoni" of Latina and then in 1998 at the Conservatory "O. Respighi" (Latina) where he received his master's degree under the guidance of clarinetist Francesco Belli. In 2002 he was called to play in the "Valley Symphony Orchestra" (Colombia), where he performed with international musicians. In the same year he won the concertmaster competition of the "Symphonic Band Cali". In March 2003 he traveled to New York where he played with different chamber groups and took classes with Kalmen Opperman.

From August 2003 until June 2008 he was professor of clarinet at the "EAFIT University" in Medellin (Colombia). He currently teaches clarinet and chamber music at the Conservatory "Antonio Maria Valencia" of Cali, Colombia. Maestro Bonfigli’s concert activity consists of performances as a soloist as well as a member of chamber groups, including the Trio Harmonia Mundi (clarinet, cello and piano), of which he is the artistic director and promoter and which has an intense musical activity around the different cultural scenes in Colombia.

Michelangelo Carbonara was born in Salerno (Italy) and graduated at the Conservatory Santa Cecilia in Rome, with full marks, under Fausto Di Cesare’s guidance.
In 1999 he was awarded his Piano Specialisation Degree by the Academy of Santa Cecilia, under Sergio Perticaroli's guidance. He continued his studies at the Salzburg Mozarteum and at the Académie Musicale de Villecroze in France. He attended masterclasses headed by Bruno Canino, Dominique Merlet and Gyorgy Sandor. In 2001 he was admitted to the International Piano Foundation “Theo Lieven” and the International Piano Academy Lake-Como headed by Martha Argerich. He had lessons with many important pianists such as Leon Fleisher, Dimitri Bashkirov, Fou Ts'Ong, William Grant Naborè, Claude Frank, Menahem Pressler, Andreas Staier, Peter Frankl and Alicia De Larrocha.

He has won 17 prizes in International piano competitions (including the Schubert International Piano Competition in Dortmund). In 2003 he gave his first performance in China, and a masterclass at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. In 2007 he made his debut at Carnegie Hall, New York and he now performs regularly in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. In 2005 he was invited at the National Prize for Arts, promoted by the Italian Ministery for Culture, as testimonial for the italian music. He is PIano Professor at "C.G. da Venosa" Conservatory in Potenza, Italy.
