Description

Domenico Nordio - violin

Massimo Scattolin - guitar

Born in Venice in 1971, violinist Domenico Nordio was a pupil of Corrado Romano and Michele Auclair; at the age of sixteen he won the Viotti International Competition (Vercelli, Italy) with the legendary Yehudi Menuhin as president of the jury. After the achievements at the Paris Thibaud Competition, Viña del Mar Sigall Competition and Marseille Francescatti Competition, the Eurovision Grand Prix obtained in 1988 launched him into the international career.

He has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious halls (Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Barbican Centre in London and Suntory Hall in Tokyo) with leading orchestras including: London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Istanbul Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, and with conductors such as C. P. Flor, W. Steinberg, J. C. Casadesus, F. Luisi, A. Lazarev, G. Aykal.

Recent seasons included concerts at St. Petersburg Philharmonic Great Hall, Bucarest Enescu Philharmonic Hall, Rio de Janeiro Teatro Municipal, Buenos Aires Teatro Colón, Moscow Tchaikovsky Great Hall and Istanbul Zorlu Center. Highlights of his 2015-2016 season include performances with Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, Filarmonica della Fenice of Venezia, Caracas Simon Bolivar Orchestra, Bogotà Philharmonic, Kiev Philharmonic, Kaunas Symphony and Radom Chamber Orchestra, Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra. Very appreciated as a chamber music player, Maestro Nordio has appeared in prestigious festivals alongside Mischa Maisky, Louis Lortie, Boris Belkin, Giovanni Bellucci, Mikhail Lidsky and Jeffrey Swann.

Maestro Nordio is recording exclusively for Sony Classical; his latest CDs include Respighi and Dallapiccola with Muhai Tang and the Parma Filarmonica Toscanini (internationally released in March 2013); Castelnuovo Tedesco and Casella with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Tito Ceccherini (internationally released in January 2015).

After a number of meetings with Andres Segovia, Massimo Scattolin began his concert career as a soloist, developing since then his chamber music and orchestral activities to include some of the best-known concertos for guitar and orchestra. Composers such as Andrea Morricone, Astor Piazzolla and Violet Archer have written concertos for him. Maestro Scattolin thus rose to the attention of European, Asian, North and South American and Australian audiences and has been described by critics as being one of the best guitarists of our times. He has worked with the main European television networks, as well as with great theatre actors such as R. Cucciolla, U. Pagliai and V. Gassman. He regularly takes part in international festivals and is the first Italian guitarist to have held master classes at the "Mozarteum" in Salzburg.

For the last few years Massimo Scattolin has been increasingly involved in composing works, first for solo guitar, and lately for symphony orchestra. He has released more than 45 recordings, with orchestras, as soloist and in collaboration with musicians such as the violinists G. Carmignola and F. Mezzena, the cellists T. Demenga, A. Bonucci and J. Berger, the flautist R. Fabbriciani, the Amati quartet, the pianist M. Damerini, the guitarist C. Bonell, the tenor F. Grollo, the soprano S. Bellamio, the percussionist T. De Piscopo and the famous group from Cuba Buena Vista Social Club.

Massimo plays a "lattice braced" guitar, made by Enzo Guido, with "Dogal Maestrale" strings.
