Deforestation-free commodities: buzzword or breakthrough?

Food systems shape landscapes - for better or for worse.

Behind some of the world’s most widely used ingredients lie complex supply chains that can either protect forests or contribute to their loss. Palm oil, soy, cocoa, coffee, and coconut: each plays a role in global deforestation, biodiversity decline, and land-use change.

But there is another path forward — one grounded in regeneration, transparency, and partnership with the communities who steward the land.

This December, for our final online Members Monthly Meetup of the year, we explore how deforestation-free commodities are not just possible, but already transforming food value chains across Asia and beyond.

And we’re joined by a speaker who sits at the very heart of that transformation.

Guest Speaker: Anita Vogel — Head of Sales, Lionheart Farms

Since 2015, Lionheart Farms has been a pioneer in sustainable agriculture and a living example of what forest-positive food systems can look like. Working in partnership with indigenous and local communities in the Philippines, they’ve cultivated over 600,000 coconut palms, producing organic, plant-based products from coconut flower sap — from beverages to condiments to natural sweeteners.

Their model goes far beyond ingredients.

It’s a commitment to regenerative farming, community empowerment, and a global fulfillment platform that connects rural livelihoods to international markets — all while protecting ecosystems rather than depleting them.

At our meetup, Anita Vogel will share how deforestation-free commodities move from concept to reality: from the trees themselves, to the farmers, to the brands sourcing these ingredients with integrity.
