In practice, the use of data tends to be compartmentalized (by area of school or department) and very much dependent on having the people with the skills to do the data manipulation rather than it being the hands of those who might make use of it. The purpose of this workshop is to give participants an overview of what is possible in a school with a “culture of data”. Looking at both academic and non-academic data to better understand the current state of play and to make decisions for the future. The workshop will look a the big picture of what is possible with data and then focus on how to pull in data and build a dashboard using Google Data Studio. In this workshop we will cover:<ul><li>Tools to building your first data databoard</li><li>Setting the stage: Ensuring data is collected in stored in a way that it can later be more easily utilized for analysis and visualization</li><li>Collection of non-academic data – getting creative with sources of data</li><li>Protocols for analysis of data – how can we be sure the right people are in the room and are interpreting the data</li></ul>Who&#x27;s PresentingChris SmithChris Smith is a Data &amp; Innovation Specialist and Elementary Technology Coach at Singapore American School. He has 17 years of experience as a classroom teacher, mainly in grades K-4. Chris is a Google Innovator, an Apple Distinguished Educator, and an Apple Professional Learning Specialist. He has a passion for making the lives of teachers easier by creating automated systems for mundane tasks. Chris helps build online dynamic dashboards that help teachers understand their students through both internal and external assessments. He also enjoys working with students to unleash their creativity beyond copy and paste from online resources. He is a life-long learner and continues to search for new innovations to allow both teachers and students to be creative. Chris has a background in data visualization and is a member of the data team at Singapore American School. In his spare time, he enjoys curling up next to a good spreadsheet.
