If you have watched a film about Clownfish, you may notice that a lot of fishes and other marine life rely on coral reefs. Moreover, coral reefs serve as a “breakwater” to protect our coastline from erosion by waves. Yet, scientists have shown that at least 30% of coral reefs are already dead. If we do not start preserving, 90% of coral reefs will be dead by 2050.

To preserve the coral reefs, we can make use of AI (Artificial Intelligence), it will help us to locate, identify and observe coral reefs effectively. Yet, preservation can only be fully achieved through cooperation, we hope to educate the public and the next generation of the concept of preservation, as well as the necessary skills, so we invite you to join our workshop “Coral Conservation Project with Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, we are looking forward to seeing you!

Schedule:

09:00: Introduction of corals in Hong Kong and Hoi Ha Wan, WWF centre

09:30: Introduction of Coral Reef mapping robot

10:00: Go to the water and use the robot to map a designated area

12:00: Lunch(inside WWF centre)

13:00: Introduction of photogrammetry and AI

14:00: Make your own AI model (Teachable Machine)

16:00: Analysis and labelling of photos collected in the morning. Test of the AI

17:00: End.

如果你看過一套和小丑魚有關的卡通，可能會知道很多海洋生物都居住在珊瑚礁。除此之外，珊瑚礁更加是保護海岸線，減少其被海浪侵蝕的防波堤。然而，科學家指出目前已有百分之30的珊瑚礁死亡，若人類不作出保育並停止破壞及污染活動，到2050年將會有百分之90的珊瑚礁死亡。

為了保育珊瑚礁，我們需要借助AI(人工智能)的幫助，讓我們有效地定位珊瑚礁及觀察其狀況。然而，保育不是一個人或一少部份人要做的事，我們希望將保育的觀念及技術帶給大眾及下一代，所以誠邀大家參加這個珊瑚礁保育工作坊。

14:00: 運用Teachable machine製作你的AI模型。

16:00: 分析及標記早上拍攝到的珊瑚照片。
