Ir Cheng is a Commercial/Procurement Manager and Project Manager with over 30 years proven record of success in Project and Development Management, Design Management, Construction Management and Engineering, Cost Estimating and Contract Administration gained with Client, Consultancy and Contractor Organisation. He is skilled in managing multi-discipline, multi-cultural teams through various contractual routes including D&C, BOT, and Partnering.

Ir Cheng specializes in the Project Management and Control of both the Design and the Construction of Civil & Building projects across a range of market sectors, including Highways and Bridges, High-rise Building, Industrial & Commercial Building, Mass Transit Rail, Airport , Marine Structure, Land Development , Metals & Mines and Power Generation Facilities in Canada, India, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, China and Asia Pacific Regions. He is also an accomplished negotiator, successful team builder, problem-solver, and is highly client focused, particularly in a multi-cultural environment.

He is the Chairman and Assessor of RICS-APC Final Assessment in QS & Construction, Project Management Pathway and the Examiner of Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyor ( Commercial Management discipline ).

Event Overview

For anyone involved in construction projects it is essential that accurate records are kept. To provide construction professionals with the skills to do this, our Contract Administration course will provide a practical insight into current practice on construction and engineering contracts. Contractual requirements, best practice, monitoring progress and guidance on post contract administration will all be covered. There will also be a workshop on the implementation of each of the topics.At the end of the day, you will be able to:

  • Assess the responsibilities for record keeping.

  • Prepare registers and records for correspondence, drawings, variations, resources on site.

  • Analyse and interpret the variation process from inception to valuation

  • Recognise bad practice and demonstrate good practice.

  • Complete a practical example on documentation.

Course contents

The course will consist of the following elements:

  • Contractual Requirements for Record (Provision by the Employer, Contractor’s obligations).

  • Best Practice (Drawing Registers, Labour records)

  • Progress (Monitoring progress, Requests for Information).

  • Practical Application (The variation process from beginning to end, Self and peer assessment).

A workshop is also included and sets a practical example to be completed.
