Event Overview



For anyone involved in construction projects it is essential that accurate records are kept. In order to provide construction professionals with the skills and knowledge required in this field, the Contract Administration course will provide a practical insight into up to date practices on construction contracts. Contractual requirements, best practice, modern methods of information management and guidance on post contract administration will all be covered.


Attendees will have the opportunity to practice the implementation of the topics discussed by completing a practical example on documentation. The role of the Contract Administrator in practice will be extensively explored with opportunities to share experiences and answer questions relating to real world scenarios.



At the end of the day, you will be able to:

  • Assess the responsibilities for record keeping.

  • Prepare registers and records for correspondence, drawings, variations, resources on site.

  • Analyse and interpret the variation process from inception to valuation

  • Recognise bad practice and demonstrate good practice.

  • Complete a practical example on documentation.


Course contents

The course will consist of the following elements:

  • Establishing the Client’s Brief 
  • Contractual Parties and their obligations (Employer, Contractor)
  • Best Practice Record Keeping (Drawing Registers, Site Records, Site Portals)
  • Progress on site (Monitoring progress, Information Flow, Requests for Information, Delays)
  • Certificates issued by Contract Administrator (Practical, Non-Completion, Partial Possession)
  • Practical Application (Administering the variation process from beginning to end)
  • Self and peer assessment with a practical activity

He is skilled in managing multi-discipline, multi-cultural teams through various contractual routes including D&C, BOT, and Partnering.

Ir Cheng specializes in the Project Management and Control of both the Design and the Construction of Civil & Building projects across a range of market sectors, including Highways and Bridges, High-rise Building, Industrial & Commercial Building, Mass Transit Rail, Airport, Marine Structure, Land Development , Metals & Mines and Power Generation Facilities in Canada, India, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, China and Asia Pacific Regions. He is also an accomplished negotiator, successful team builder, problem-solver, and is highly client focused, particularly in a multi-cultural environment.

He is the Chairman and Assessor of RICS-APC Final Assessment in QS & Construction, Project Management Pathway and the Examiner of Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyor ( Commercial Management discipline).
