Community Sharing Series - Getting to Know Soft Digital Fabrication through Circular Knitic
Can textile fabrication be integrated into the makers’ culture?
Varvara & Mar have been working with knitting and knitting machines since 2012. That time they already had a vision about a ‘reprap’ knitting machine. And finally, they have achieved it or at least got the idea rolling: Circular Knitic is a completely open-source machine that is produced by using digital fabrication tools, and thus, allows to be replicated by everyone, who has access to a 3d printing and laser cutting.
Circular Knitic is an open hardware project. By using digital fabrication and makers’ tools, like 3D printing, laser cutting, makerbeam, and Arduino, Varvara & Mar have designed an automated and replicable circular knitting machine. With this project, Circular Knitic, and their earlier one called Knitic, they aim to integrate textile fabrication into the makers’ culture.
During the talk, Dr Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet Sola from Varvara & Mar will share their professional insights on textile production methods and their integration in the field of digital fabrication. They will introduce their open-source projects Knitic and Circular Knitic. Participants will get a valuable chance to meet them. http://var-mar.info/circular-knitic/
