About this event

The "Colours of Humanity" Arts Prize 2022 Viewing and Auction Evening will be held on 7 July at the Goethe-Institut Hongkong.

Now in its eighth edition, the “Colours of Humanity” Arts Prize 2022 is co-hosted by Justice Centre Hong Kong and the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao, and supported by the Goethe-Institut Hongkong. The exhibition is curated by a leading local team and judged by an international panel of professional artists and art therapists, alongside directors of accomplished arts organisations.

A live auction of the 6 award-winning pieces will be held on 7 July (Thursday) evening at the Goethe-Institut Hongkong between 6pm and 9pm, with tickets to the event now available on Eventbrite for a suggested, tax-deductible donation of HKD250 each. The remaining shortlisted works are all available to purchase via online auction through 23 July, alongside limited copies of select works’ reprints available to purchase. All proceeds go directly to support future Arts Prize events and enable Justice Centre to continue its non-profit work in Hong Kong.

Each of the 25 shortlisted work has been selected for its unique and insightful exploration of diversity and inclusion, both at home and abroad, from the 83 artworks submitted. Established and emerging Hong Kong artists, community artists, as well as youth artists are represented in the shortlist with a diverse range of media and subject matters including but not limited to the ethnic minorities, migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong, mental health issues, and the LGBTQI+ community.

All the shortlisted and winning works are by artists that come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, often with life experiences of healing and caring, who are ready to share their stories with the world under this year’s theme of ‘Colours of Humanity’. In line with the organisers’ commitment to diversity and inclusion, the judging was conducted without the jury knowing the artists’ age, experience, gender, name, or nationality. The full list of shortlisted works is available on https://www.justicecentre.org.hk/artsprize/.

“We are very grateful for the Hong Kong community’s continued support for the Arts Prize over the years. Art has a unique ability to bring people from different backgrounds together and connect with and move people in ways that cannot be explained. This year, we are proud to celebrate members of the refugee, migrant, and LGBTQI+ communities and hope that the shortlisted artworks will help spark support for their unique issues, as well as shed light on the incredible diversity that Hong Kong has to offer,” says Jonathan Chang, Board Chair, Justice Centre Hong Kong.

The Prize relies on generous donations from the public and interested parties to remain sustainable and tax-deductible donations to the crowdfunding campaign can be made at https://www.justicecentre.org.hk/artsprize/.

‘Colours of Humanity’ continues to engage all sectors of the community and works with artists, institutions, media, galleries and corporates to raise funds for the non-profit work of Justice Centre Hong Kong.
