Meet the Tycoon and the Rising Stars
Everyone has heard about startups: relaxed work environments, a constant flow of innovation, companies with boundless potential… but is life always so smooth for these business prospects? We've invited an industry veteran in James Guzy and budding entrepreneur Enoch Chan to discuss startup challenges across two different era's: the Silicon Valley tech boom versus present-day Hong Kong. You'll also hear from the next generation as interns completing their Sage Corps and CoCoon STEP programs take the stage to tell their own stories.
Speakers:
James Guzy has over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor business spanning companies such as Hughes and AMD. He's a founder of PLX Technology which at the height of the tech boom in the early 2000's was worth over USD $1 billion. Since retiring from PLX James has become an individual consultant and angel investor for semiconductor tech companies in addition to focusing on fund raising and serving on the board for several companies.
Enoch Chan is a co-founder of the Hong Kong company Playroll which aims to provide music enthusiasts with a cost effective way to procure tickets to their favorite concerts. He has prior experience working at McKinsey assisting Fortune 500 companies with their growth, M&A, and sales/marketing strategies. Enoch completed his studies at Queen's College and received 9 A's in the HKCEE.
Balcony is a platform for people with passion, dreams, and amazing stories. We find stories from people around us and invite them to be Balcony speakers/performers. We capture and spread those amazing dreams and stories through live events and online video platforms and hope to inspire and connect like-minded people. CoCoon STEP (Students Training in Entrepreneurship Program) is an opportunity for students to work inside startups and learn about entrepreneurship.During the internship, students are invited to participate in CoCoon Core, a weekly entrepreneurship workshop to equip them with the knowledge and skills to develop their own ideas and products.
