Born and educated in Hong Kong, Derek is an early "returnee" to Asia with 25+ years of APAC market entry experience. Since the 90s, his early work in venture capital makes him one of the first investors involved with Asia based startups. He has reviewed 15,000+ business plans starting with first generation internet companies. He was part of a core team that managed funds for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Singapore Government Investment Corporation (GIC), Sun Microsystems, Mitsui, Fujitsu, NTT Docomo and PCCW. He is one of the most respected technology community leaders and involved with nearly every accelerator/co-working space in HK. Since 2004, Derek is the Managing Partner of BraveSoldier Venture Capital, an early stage tech fund. With a background in investment banking, direct investment and management consulting, he has worked in all aspects of fundraising including seed, family office, Series A and IPOs. He was
the CEO of a Chinese mobile payments company and credited for "leading from the front" from seed round to commercial responsibilities to investor exit. With over 500 "day trips" to the Pearl River Delta, Derek has direct manufacturing involvement in telecoms, robotics, wearables and pc peripherals. Derek is an author of two books, university guest lecturer, US-Global Innovation Fellow, TEDx speaker, current board member and former Trustee/co-Chairman of the Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA), advisor to the Open University of Hong Kong and mentor/advisor to start-ups. He is an extreme multi-day ultra-marathoner, PADI Dive Master and jiu-jitsu practitioner.

Till has worked in the financial service sector for over 15 years and has broad experience as senior executive in Strategy, M&A, Capital Markets and Venture Capital. He has previously worked in Europe, China, Australia and is now based in Hong Kong. In his current role as SVP Strategy at HKEX he is responsible for the planning and execution of key initiatives of HKEX’s long term strategy.
Prior to his role at HKEX, he was heading the M&A department at Westpac, a leading global bank based in Australia. He was responsible for the development, establishment and execution of inorganic initiatives and had senior oversight over Westpac 3 Venture Capital funds. He is also served as the Chairman of Stanford Australia Foundation since.
