In contemporary society, office workers have the freedom to express their style through their choice of work attire.During an interview with Man Gor, a Chuen Lung villager, artist Benjamin discovered that in the 1980s, Man Gor often wore Dors T-shirts—a style that allowed individuals to print their own images onto the fabric. These T-shirts were more than just expressions of personal taste; they also reflected the fashion and cultural trends of the era.

Inspired by this story, this workshop invites participants to join the artist in exploring Chuen Lung. Through tracing the movements and stories of its residents, the session uncovers the village’s multifaceted connections with the outside world—economically, culturally, and beyond. Guided by their journey, participants will use photographs taken during the walk to design and create their own unique T-shirt, blending the narratives of Chuen Lung with personal creativity to reinterpret the spirit of this place through fashion.

“Chuen Lung Visual Research Archive” Open Studio (II)

Date: 6 Sepember - 12 October 2025

Time: 11:00-18:00

Embark on a complex journey through time and space in Chuen Lung, tracing the entangled trajectories of rural life caught between tradition and modernity. Through the distinct perspectives of artists Tse Pak Chai, Tung Chiu On, and Ho Lap Yan, "Chuen Lung Visual Chronicles: Open Studio II" presents a dynamic map of Hong Kong's rural past, present and future. Spanning themes of reimagining land, documenting the daily lives of villagers in the 1960s, and tracing their spatial mobility between work and leisure through and across the village, the exhibition offers more than a vivid portrayal of rural transformations amid urbanization and modernization. It serves as a critical reflection on how temporal and spatial dimensions shape communities and identities.

Benjamin Hao Presents: "Chuen Lung Circling"

Migration, Mobility, and Contexts of Everyday Life

Through site visits and interviews with residents, Chuen Lung emerges as a remarkable site of inquiry. Situated near urban centers yet maintaining a distinct sense of autonomy, the village embodies a cohesive narrative of community life and intergenerational continuity. While it stands apart, Chuen Lung is intricately linked to the broader development of Hong Kong, forming a network of connections that bridges the local and the metropolitan.

This community—comprising indigenous villagers, long-term residents, and recurring visitors—reveals a densely interwoven fabric of migration, education, and daily life. Movement, whether physical or social, flows in and out of Chuen Lung, yet the village remains a constant point of return.

Guided by interviews with five villagers and community members, along with collected archival materials and photographs, this project traces the patterns of mobility and connection between Chuen Lung and the wider world from the 1960s to the present day. It seeks to articulate the subtle relationships and evolving dynamics that define the village’s unique position within broader historical and social contexts.
