This July in Hong Kong, I’m debuting my first-ever solo harp concert, an immersive experience where music and color intertwine. Inspired by synesthesia, my performance explores how sound translates into emotion and imagery, with an accompanying exhibition of my artwork—each piece reflecting the mood and movement of the music.

A defining moment in my artistic career was my first solo harp concert, “Canvas of Sound.” This concert was more than a recital—it was an immersive exploration of my synesthesia, a rare neurological trait that allows me to experience sound as color, shape, and visual imagery. This sensory crossover began developing during my early years with Melody Tam, who always encouraged me to associate music with vivid visual concepts. Through this creative training, I gradually began to perceive musical tones as hues, textures, and forms—transforming the way I listen, play, and interpret music.

"Canvas of Sound" was a personal expression of how I see music—not just as sound, but as a multidimensional world of color and movement. It marked the beginning of my mission: to share this unique perception with others and to explore how synesthesia can open new doors in musical storytelling. By bringing this approach into performance, education, and composition, I hope to inspire future generations of musicians to engage with their own senses in imaginative and expressive ways.

Music is more than technique—it’s a language of emotion, color, and connection. Through my work, I aim to create a space where audiences and students alike can see what I hear and feel what I see.
