Building Tour: Housing in Place

Dear Members

Housing in Place: Quality Living for Sustainable Hong Kong (HiP) was conceived by Prof. Juan Du, formerly at the University of Hong Kong and now Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto, to research and design alternative housing solutions and community spaces in urban neighbourhoods that are well served by public transportation and civic institutions.

Partnering with Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong (Habitat), the faculty's Urban Ecologies Design Lab (UEDL) at the University of Hong Kong has transformed four floors of a vacant building awaiting redevelopment in Jordan to provide emergency housing and other badly needed community facilities. The HiP Emergency Shelter and Community Space will enable local NGOs to serve thousands of residents each month through meal distribution, legal consulting and home improvement training.

Natasza Minasiewicz, Lead Designer and Project Manager, will lead this Building Tour on September 24th, 10:00 – 11:00 AM. We look forward to hearing some of the behind-the-scenes stories about this very important development and urge you to attend.
