- Have you ever been captivated by a book that you just had to add it to your collection?
- Do you have unique ways or habits when reading artists’ books or photography books?
- Has your approach to reading changed after learning about a book’s context?
The relationship between a book and its reader isn’t just shaped by the author’s intended meaning—it’s deeply influenced by the reader’s own experience and perspective. In "Books & Brews", we are excited to welcome Renatus Wu, Design Director at local design studio Edited and writer Nathan Lee, who will share their curated collections of artists’ books and photography books. Together, they’ll explore the elements that shape how we experience reading.
Book categories often shift depending on space, context, and purpose, which in turn subtly change how we read them. For example, a picture book that features handwritten typography might be misunderstood if a reader focuses solely on the text, overlooking the creator’s deliberate choice of handwriting itself as a form of expression as well. So, how should we approach the many shapes and styles of books? Both Renatus and Nathan, experienced in bookmaking and reading alike, will offer insights into the dynamic interplay between content and context.
We warmly welcome anyone interested in creativity, design, and art books to join us for this event.
