About this Event

LOCATION

Room B, 21F Yiuga Factory Building, No.62 Victoria Road, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong Island

DESCRIPTION

Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn or you may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins.

You can use the embroidery technique on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, dresses, stockings... you name it!

Embroidery is not only a "craft" but a great way to transfer your creativity onto your favorite items around you or making a store-bought item personal and special.

A secret benefit...

It is therapeutic and meditative too :)

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The class is a fun and colourful introduction to hand embroidery that is designed for beginners or those who want a refresher. You will start by learning the tools of the craft, how to use a hoop and how to transfer a pattern.

Next, we'll explore a selection of stitches - running stitch, back stitch, chain stitch, stem stitch, French knots and more.

You will leave feeling confident to start your own project or perhaps continue to our intermediate workshop to expand your knowledge even more.

WHAT WILL YOU TAKE HOME?

Your artwork!

About Gaby

Gaby's radio Interview

Gaby was born in Slovakia and after graduating high school she moved to London. After 22 years of living in London Gaby arrived to Hong Kong just 2 years ago.

Gaby has been embroidering ever since she can remember. But her embroidery knowledge really took on another level after she completed a Diploma and graduated in 2012 from the world famous Royal School of Needlework (RSN) with a foundation degree in Technical Hand Embroidery. While at university she also completed a millinery course at London College of Fashion and often blocks and embroiders her hats.

But perhaps her proudest achievement was being a part of RSN team which created the wedding dress, veil and the embellishment for Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

Gaby now works from her studio in Discovery Bay teaching embroidery and sewing courses. She is also an experienced seamstress and makes custom handbags, quilts and memory toys.
