About this event

These four films explore the tradition of storytelling as a way of understanding and passing on information about what it means to be human at a certain point in time. In Pyramids and Parabolas II, Alice Wang creates a surreal video collage that examines the relationship between our corporal bodies and the infinite and unknowable cosmos. In Sonata for Smoke, Samson Young presents an audiovisual journey that chronicles the different phases of his residency in Kyoto. In Sorry for the Late Reply, Wong Ping brings color to the world of repressed individual desires with a phantasmagoric animated story involving a strange obsession with varicose veins. And while the protagonist of So Yo Hen’s Goodnight, see you later is a white duvet, the way the inanimate object squirms and slithers to life under the hands of two marionettists evokes the artist’s own restlessness and the shared sense of anxiety that has dogged society since the onset of the pandemic.

Art Basel presents a program of three screenings featuring 15 films by and about artists, held at Louis Koo Cinema, Hong Kong Art Centre. The Film sector is curated by Li Zhenhua.
