Introducing our Black History Month Keynote Speaker: Akala

DPOCA in collaboration with the Durham University EDI team are delighted to announce that this year’s Black History Month Keynote speaker is the rapper, journalist, activist, poet, author of Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire, founder of the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company, and MOBO winner, Akala. He will be giving a talk on Africa in History, an overview of African Civilisations and societies from 10,000BC to 1700AD, looking at development of writing, astronomical calendars, metallurgy, warfare, empires, kinship, religions and so much more.

The talk will be live on Zoom and there will be a chance to ask questions afterwards, sign up to avoid disappointment.
