Event overview

The Building Ordinance (BO) governs the safety of building, and prevents buildings from becoming unsafe. Building works are subject to the control of BO, except exempted works where building owners can appoint an Authorised Person (AP) for preparation of plans. Carrying out building works without prior approval and consent of the Building Authority is an offence and is liable to fines and imprisonment.

With reference to the Building Ordinance and common requests from clients, the speaker will give a presentation in relation to unauthorised building works and the advices that professionals can offer to their clients when handling building works.

Key areas of discussion:
1. Building Ordinance and related legislation
2. What are exempted works and unauthorised building works; how to assess them
3. Legitimate expectation against enforcement action
4. What do clients need to know - legal consideration and procedure
