始於探討對 #德國 #殖民統治 如何持續塑造 #中國 #青島 的視覺、空間與歷史想像。作品以 #田野調查 為方法，追尋 #殖民城市規劃 遺留至今的痕跡，並思考它們如何被保存、轉化，以及重新納入當代城市的敘事之中。

作品源於藝術家參與 #科隆 Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum「Artist Meets Archive」駐留期間的研究。在館藏約二百張德國殖民時期的青島照片中，建築、道路與城市全景共同建構出一座秩序井然、現代化且可被治理的殖民城市。這些影像既是歷史紀錄，也是 #殖民權力 #塑造城市形象、#規範觀看方式 的視覺工具。

作為一位成長於香港的藝術家，#香港 的城市空間同樣承載着殖民建築、基礎設施、語言及制度留下的複雜痕跡。作品並非將兩地的歷史經驗直接等同，而是以香港作為一種觀看位置，追問 #殖民遺產 如何在不同城市中被保存、消費、神話化，並持續參與 #身份的建構。

作品在觀察、步行與反覆造訪特定地點之間推進。影像不僅聚焦於殖民建築，也關注城市廢棄結構、旅遊景點及日常城市表面。部分照片以 #油紙 局部包裹，指涉一則關於 #德國排水系統替換零件 曾以油紙保存的地方傳說。這種物質處理進一步延伸至攝影、裝置及展示結構，使油紙既成為保存歷史的表層，也成為遮蔽、包裝與重新書寫歷史的隱喻。

來自香港的視覺藝術家，作品探討移民、殖民歷史與集體記憶。其創作橫跨攝影、現成物與裝置，近年的作品透過重新處理檔案幻燈片，以視覺錯置、重複與抽象等方式重新框定歷史，並挑戰殖民影像所建立的觀看體系。

他的作品曾於多個國際藝術機構及攝影節展出，包括德國科隆 Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum、倫敦 The Photographers’ Gallery，以及京都 KYOTOGRAPHIE 國際攝影節的 KG+ SELECT 單元。他曾獲皇家攝影學會研究生獎助金（2021/22），並獲提名 C/O Berlin Talent Award。

【 Event Preview💡Works by Jimmi Wing Ka Ho “𝙄𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮” 🪧🔦 】

The work opens with an inquiry into how German colonial rule continues to shape the visual, spatial, and historical imagination of Qingdao, China. Developed through field research, the project traces the remaining structures of colonial urban planning and considers how they have been preserved, transformed, and incorporated into contemporary narratives of the city.

The project began with the ‘Artist Meets Archive’ residency at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne. In the museum’s collection, nearly two hundred photographs from the German colonial period depict architecture, roads, and panoramic city views. Together, they construct an image of Qingdao as an orderly, modern, and governable colonial city. These photographs are not only historical records, but also visual tools through which colonial power shaped the image of the city and controlled how it was seen.

As an artist who grew up in Hong Kong, the artist approaches Qingdao from a city that is also marked by the complex legacies of colonial architecture, infrastructure, language, and institutions. The project does not treat the historical experiences of the two cities as identical. Instead, Hong Kong becomes a position from which to ask how colonial legacies are preserved, consumed, and mythologised in different urban contexts, and how they continue to shape the identities.

The work develops through observation, walking, and repeated visits to particular sites. The photographs focus not only on colonial buildings, but also on abandoned urban structures, tourist sites, and daily life of the city. Some images are partially wrapped in oil paper, referring to a local legend that replacement parts for the German drainage system were once preserved in this material. This physical treatment extends across the photographs, installations, and display structures. The oil paper becomes both a surface for preserving history and a metaphor for the ways history can be concealed, packaged, and rewritten.

𓂄 Jimmi Wing Ka Ho

A visual artist from Hong Kong whose work explores migration, colonial history, and collective memories. Working across photography, found materials, and installation, his recent projects disrupt colonial image regimes by reworking archival slides and reframing the past through visual dislocation, repetition, and abstraction.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum(Germany), The Photographers’ Gallery(UK), and the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival’s KG+ SELECT programme(Japan). He was awarded the Royal Photographic Society Postgraduate Bursary in 2021/22 and was nominated for the C/O Berlin Talent Award.
