Programming for Non-Programmers (English)
Saturday, February 2nd from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Are you hungry to get started programming on your own but don't know where to start? Are you itching to talk the talk? Are you building a website and want guidelines for working with developers? This workshop is for you.
The instructor will provide an overview of the core concepts necessary to transform your ideas into concrete web designs. We'll look at questions like "What is the difference between Front-end vs. Back-end?", "What is HTML5 and how is it used?", "Are those web frameworks necessary for my project, and how to choose between them?" We will be both reading and writing code.
Student Take-aways:
- Working knowledge of how a web application works, from client-side to server-side
- How to plan a web project by drawing actions flow and wireframes
- Determining what coding languages should be used for a project
- Basic knowledge of HTML (including HTML5), CSS and JavaScript
- How data is stored in a database
- How to write SQL query to select, insert and update records in a database
Level Pre-Requisites:
None. No coding experience is required.
Preparation:
Students should bring computers with modern browser installed as we will be doing live coding in browser during the class. For a modern web browser, Google Chrome is recommended, but Firefox and IE10 will work.
Target Audience:
- Project managers without coding experience and want to communicate better with their developers
- Designers who want to learn to bring their static designs to life
- Entrepreneurs who have an idea and want to build a prototype
- Anyone interested in learning what programming is all about
