Event Details

The Justice Conference Asia is a two-day annual event designed to promote and encourage a conversation around the key justice related issues facing our communities in Asia today. Through world class speakers, Asian-based practitioners, humanitarian organizations and NGO’s, the conference brings together a network of passionate justice advocates for a dialogue that embraces hope and restores beauty where it has been lost within our societies. Our overall theme for this year is “Embracing Hope” and we hope that this conference will bring encouragement to those workers as well as a forum for them to interact with others in their field. The conference will also be aimed at encouraging Asian pastors to turn their churches towards causes for justice in this part of the world. We believe justice sits at the very heart of God’s kingdom as a tangible expression of his influence on earth. Our heart is to see churches in this part of the world embrace this heart and move God’s mercy forward.

Aims and Objectives

The conference is designed to achieve the following:

  1. Encouragement to the many Christians working in difficult or isolated circumstances in SE Asia in the Justice arena
  2. Encouragement to churches in SE Asia to work for justice in their own social environment
  3. Excellent theological grounding for justice
  4. Practical advice and experience for and from those working on the front line

Format

The conference will take place over three nights and two days and will consist of 6 main sessions and parallel workshops led by keynote speakers and ‘on the ground’ practitioners. This year we will have workshop streams that will allow conference attendees to focus their breakout sessions in various areas of justice work. Confirmed streams are: Justice in Business, Anti-Trafficking, Justice and the Church, Generational Justice, Migration and Persecution.

Details

Date: Thursday - Saturday,  May 22-24 2014.

Venue: The conference will take place in our first class facility in Wanchai, Hong Kong. This provides auditorium seating for 600 for main conference as well as 5/6 workshop spaces.  The venue is in the heart of the city, conveniently located, and professionally equipped.

Theme: The conference theme is ‘Embracing Hope’. Our aim is that the main sessions and workshops will be a clarion call to God’s people to embrace the hope that is found in God’s heart for restoring beauty from ashes, renewing and reviving where decay and injustice has set in within our societies.

Speakers: We currently have confirmed the involvement of Shane Claiborne, Ken Wytsma, Eddie Byun, Matt Freidmann, Don Brewster, Gil Ob and Jarrod McKenna. We are also in the process of bringing in further speakers from around the world.

Performers/Artists:  As part of the conference, we believe music and arts is central to expressing both God’s heart for justice as well as our theme of “Embracing Hope”.  We excited to annonce The Rend Collective will join us over the weekend, as well local worship from The Vine Band

NGO/Practitioners Day– Together towards Solutions

The Justice Conference is designed to inspire and energize the Justice community in Asia and for practitioners it is a critical time of refreshing, networking and sharing. However with so many interesting sessions to attend, like-minded people do not always find time to meet together to talk, discuss and engage over areas of common interest. This year we are offering an opportunity for practitioners to meet together for a whole day geared around their particular needs and interests. This will be held on Thursday May 22 before the main conference commences.

During this time we will be considering common areas of interest such as: issues and difficulties in the field; how to create a networking platform; sharing resources; and collaboration on new ideas and possible solutions. This time will be facilitated by Viva with minimal formal presentation time in order to give maximum opportunity for interaction and sharing.

Ideas currently under consideration include:

1. Stress and Trauma debrief

2. Speed networking

3. Solution strategies

4. Engagement for action learning
